Wins and awards at Community Sports Awards

Sandra Slattery and Tacking Point SLSC capped a spectacular 12 months with recognition at the 2024 NSW Community Sports Awards after being named Administrator of the Year.

The Mid North Coast volunteer wears many hats, including acting as Tacking Point Director of Finance and Branch Director of Surf Sports, and won the SLSNSW Administrator of the Year 2023 category at the SLSNSW Awards of Excellence last August.

Announced at a lavish ceremony at CommBank Stadium in Parramatta on Wednesday 19 June, Sandra shared the title with Shelly Rush-Nichols – a volunteer for Touch Football in Maitland.

“It’s amazing, that’s all I can say,” she said of her award.

“I’m honored and privileged, and it’s not just me doing this, it’s a team effort.”

Meanwhile, Queenscliff SLSC, SNB Branch and SLSNSW Life Member, Barry Antella OAM – a legend within the surfing community and a passionate volunteer – received a small token of appreciation for his decades of dedication when he received the Distinguished Long Service Award.

“It just tells me I’ve been doing this too long,” he said, laughing.

“But no, I was actually quite surprised; it is very nice to receive this.

“Being involved in the sport of surfing, it’s really great to see all the people competing and staying fit. Everyone is there to help each other and we are just one big family.”
