Wimbledon performance earns Mark Lajal 23 places in ATP rankings | News

Estonia’s top male tennis player Mark Lajal has risen more than twenty places in the recently published world tennis rankings.

While Lajal was ranked 269th in the ATP rankings a week ago and qualified for Wimbledon, where he did well against the reigning champion and eventual winner Carlos Alcaraz (Spain), the Estonian rose 23 places to 246th place.

Veteran player Kaia Kanepi, meanwhile, has dropped 114 spots to 397th. Recently crowned national champion Jelena Malõgina has also dropped 11 spots in the past week and is now ranked 469th by the WTA, while Maileen Nuudi is ranked 561st in the new rankings.

Estonia’s second-best player, Daniil Glinka, dropped six places in the ATP rankings to 425th in the world.

Oliver Ojakäär rose slightly to 906th place, while Kristjan Tamm dropped 38 places to 1,169th place, despite recently becoming national champion.

At international level, newly crowned Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic) is now ranked tenth in the WTA rankings, while number two Jasmine Paolini (Italy) has climbed to fifth place in the rankings of best female players.

The top four players remain unchanged after Wimbledon: Iga Swiatek (Poland) remains the leader, followed by Coco Gauff (USA), Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) and Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan).

Last year’s Wimbledon runner-up and winner, Ons Jabeur (Tunisia) and Marketa Vondroušova (Czech Republic), dropped out of the top 10 and are now ranked 16th and 18th respectively.

In the men’s event, Janek Sinner remains at the top of the ATP rankings, while Novak Djokovic remains one spot above Carlos Alcaraz, despite the latter beating him in the men’s singles final at Wimbledon on Sunday.
