Watch the trailer for the final season

The senseis and Students of Miyagi-Do karate chop wood, dodge beer bottles and compete one-on-one to prepare for the World Karate Championship in a new trailer for Cobra Kai. And of course, tensions run high between old rivals Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawerence (William Zabka). “The Sekai Taikai Tournament is coming up,” Johnny says in the trailer. “Now is not the time to be a wimp.”

“Our strength is that we teach both styles equally. Don’t jeopardize that balance, man,” Daniel reminds his former rival.

“Since when do I walk around with you?” asks Johnny.

The two-minute clip highlights the first part of the series’ sixth and final season and reveals a (literally) buried secret of Mr. Miyagi.

The final season of the Karate child spin-off will feature 15 episodes divided into three parts: Part One premieres on July 18, Part Two premieres on November 28, and the final part will be released in 2025. The series combines legacy characters including Macchio’s original karate kid Daniel LaRusso and Martin Kove’s John Kreese with a new generation of agile karate students. Part One of the final season follows the elimination of Cobra Kai from the Valley, forcing the group of sensei and students to decide if and how to compete in the Sekai Taikai, or Karate World Championships.

The cast also includes Xolo Maridueña, Jacob Bertrand, Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan, Peyton List and others. In a 2020 interview with Rolling stone, Macchio discussed revisiting the decades-old film The karate child and how he got back into character.

“One of the interesting things about looking at the Karate child “The whole point of the film is that you’re following this kid,” Macchio said. “The camera is on his shoulder and you’re living every frame through Danny LaRusso. When I showed it to my kids, say 15 years ago, I was suddenly watching it from Mr. Miyagi’s perspective because I was watching this kid who wouldn’t listen and he was less interesting to me than Miyagi. So I got a new perspective on the same thing — and that’s something we’ll take with us.”
