Washington transfer Sydney Stewart has joined Arizona’s softball program

Former Washington catcher Sydney Stewart announced via her Instagram that she is participating in the Wildcat program.

Last season as a sophomore, she played in 45 games while starting in 44 and posted a .321 average with eight doubles, a triple and five home runs while driving in 18. She also stole seven bases and recorded seven multi-hit games.

She became the third player in program history to record three doubles in one match, doing so in Utah.

Last season, she made just three errors on 248 chances, good for a fielding percentage of .988.

She earned a spot on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Pacific Region Third Team.

Arizona coach Caitlin Lowe posted a message on Twitter (X) warning of Stewart’s impending transfer announcement:

Arizona lost backup catcher Olivia DiNardo to Nebraska after last season. Lowe used true freshmen Emily Schepp most of the season and Schepp delivered seven home runs and 27 RBIs with a .295 batting average.

The addition of Stewart greatly strengthened the catcher position and gives Lowe more options at the designated player position within the batting lineup.

Stewart is one of seven players to enter Washington’s transfer portal after the season.

She is from San Jose, California. Her mother Sara played softball at Sonoma State and her father Colin played baseball at San Diego State and Sonoma State before playing professionally with the Atlanta Braves in 1998 and 1999.
