The Pakistan cricket team crashed out of the first round of the 2024 T20 World Cup this month, losing to the US and arch-rivals India in the first two matches of the tournament.

While the ‘Men in Green’ ended their campaign with wins over Canada and Ireland, they ultimately fell just a fraction behind second-placed USA in the Group A points table.

As it turns out, the outcome could prompt the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to make some drastic changes to its selection committee.

According to a recent report, the PCB is looking forward to a review to assess options on what went wrong with the Babar Azam-led team.

PCB is likely to dismiss the Wahab Riaz-led selection committee

As reported by ESPNCricinfothe PCB is likely to make changes to their seven-member selection committee. Moreover, chief selector and former Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz could also make his exit from the group.

The PCB is reportedly “frustrated” with the team’s recent 2024 T20 World Cup showing in the US, and they aim to assess their overall performance.

Former South African batsman Gary Kirsten, who was recently appointed as Pakistan’s cricket coach, also criticized the Babar Azam-led side for their ‘poor shot selection’ batting throughout the tournament. Kirsten also questioned the fitness of the players.

The Pakistan team started their 2024 T20 World Cup campaign with a shock defeat against USA in a thrilling Super Over battle. In their subsequent outing, the ‘Men in Green’ staged an easy chase in New York against perennial arch-rivals India.

The Pakistan team will soon shift its focus for a two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home in August.
