Top 10 Best LEGO Video Game Sets – Destructoid

After getting back into LEGO this year, I learned that LEGO makes some pretty good sets based on video games. MinecraftUnpleasant Marioeven for people like PortalLEGO has built some fantastic sets.

There are even more great video game sets coming out this year, including the first Zelda set and the Fortnite Battle Bus. But we already have so many great ones to choose from, so without further ado, here are some of the best.

Did you know that LEGO has a Portal 2 set that had a connection to their short-lived video game Lego Dimensions? Yep, and it even includes a Chell minifigure and a portal gun.

For the builds you get a turret and accompanying cube. However, since it is a toys-to-life product, this means that they are small and do not meet the usual standard of the typical LEGO builds that you are used to. But if you are a LEGO and Portal fan, this is a no-brainer.

I almost forgot that LEGO collaborated with Overwatchbut that collaboration did give us a nice LEGO D.Va and Reinhardt. The D.va mech build is incredibly accurate, while the Reinhardt one is a bit too big for my taste.

The included minifigures are so detailed and a reason to buy this set. The mechs pose well and will look great on any shelf.

We don’t have a full-size LEGO arcade cabinet set yet, but the LEGO PAC-MAN Arcade comes pretty close. It has a handy feature that lets you simulate a game PAC MAN with a turn of the crank.

The side builds are a nice addition, one with a neat mechanism that has Pac-Man chasing ghosts and another with a small mini-figure scale arcade to play in. It’s a little expensive but makes a nice display piece.

What is a LEGO game for adults? Super Mario set that costs less than 100 dollars? This crazy little Piranha Plant!

It fits perfectly with your LEGO botanical collection and is also a piggy bank. It lacks in features but more than makes up for it in charm. Just look at the smile.

Bowser rides in style in this huge airship set. At least, he would be if he was in this set.

It is both presentable and very playable. If you have an electronic Mario figure, you can even do a huge boss battle on it by folding out the entire ship. I personally love the cute Bowser face on the front of the boat and the hidden features, such as defeating the giant mechanical hand

If you want a LEGO set that will really impress the gamers who come to your house, this is it. Not only is this set impressive for a near life-like replica of the original NES, but it also has a stunning play feature to replicate the original Super Mario Bros.

It even comes with a LEGO cartridge that you can insert into the console and it does a pretty good job of replicating the feel of the real thing. There’s only one problem with this set: I could buy a real NES and Super Mario Bros. for less.

If you ever wanted Green Hill Zone from the original Sonic the hedgehog game that sits right on your desk, now you can with this retro-styled set. It’s almost like LEGO took a section of the first level right out of the game, lives in the bottom corner and all.

The pixelated details on the grass are nice touches and the enemy designs are a plus. The same can’t be said for that scary looking Dr. Eggman though. Other than that this is a nice throwback display.

I found the Minecraft micro-build worlds in the past, but this feels like a fully realized version of that to me. There are so many biomes and mobs represented, from a small village to the ice peaks.

There are also plenty of display options, such as flipping it over to reveal a lovingly recreated crafting table. And if you remove all the mini biomes, you can see a map of the build underneath. While this set looks great, it is a little expensive, which lets it down.

If you go to get one of the LEGO pieces Animals crossing sets, this is the one to get. First of all, the two minifigures that come with it, Isabelle and Fauna, and some of the cutest ever made.

Secondly, there are so many nice details in this set. The house design is cute (although a little underdeveloped), there are coins and branches in the tree, and there is even a KK Slider album LEGO tile. It is a great package for Animals crossing loved ones.

This set is my personal favorite. The Tallneck build is a beautiful robot build all on its own. You don’t even need a Horizon fan to appreciate it.

The building techniques on this one are so impressive, with lots of sideways building to get the angles just right. Add to that a perfect Aloy minifigure, a small Watcher machine and a beautiful base that captures the feel of the game perfectly, including the red reeds to sneak in, and you have an incredible display.
