Three skateboarders announced for Paris 2024

Three skateboarders announced for Paris 2024

Olympic bronze medalist Sky Brown will represent Team GB again this summer as part of the skateboarding team appointed by the British Olympic Association (BOA) for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Lola Tambling and Andy Macdonald will also join Brown in Paris, where both park skateboarders will make their Games debut.

Brown returns to Team GB after becoming Britain’s youngest ever medalist at an Olympic Games when she won a bronze medal at the age of 13 in the first park event in the history of the Tokyo 2020 Games.

Since winning her Olympic medal, the 15-year-old is now world champion, the first British skateboarder ever to achieve the feat, while also becoming a double X Games champion and a Dew Tour champion in 2022.

Tambling, 16, from Cornwall, started skateboarding at the age of seven after attending a skate jam in her local park set up by her parents, before eventually competing in international tournaments from the age of 11. She won the UK National Skateboarding Championship in 2022 and competed in her first World Championship in February last year, where she finished sixth.

Meanwhile, Macdonald will become the first British male skateboarder ever to compete at an Olympic Games after qualifying for Paris almost a week ago.

The 50-year-old skateboarder, who has been skateboarding professionally since 1994, currently holds the record for the most X Games medals in vertical skateboarding.

Team GB Chef de Mission Mark England OBE said: “It was fantastic to see skateboarding make its debut in Tokyo, and we were delighted to see Sky make history as the youngest person ever to win a medal for Team GB at the Summer Games.

“I’m delighted to welcome Sky back to the team, and we’re equally pleased to have Lola and Andy as part of Team GB for their debut Games. It will be exciting to see these three in action in Paris and I can’t wait to see them showcase their repertoire of skills this summer.”

Darren Pearcy, Skateboard GB Performance Manager said; “We are delighted to announce that Sky Brown, Lola Tambling and Andy Macdonald have been selected for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Their exceptional skills and unwavering dedication have led them to this extraordinary achievement.

“As they step onto the Olympic stage with the world as spectators, they not only showcase their talents and personalities, but also bring the values, culture and community of skateboarding to a global audience. Our pride in them knows no bounds and we are excited to see how they inspire a new generation of skateboarders.”

The skateboarding events will take place over four separate days from July 27 to August 7 at the Place de la Concorde in Paris.
