The Sims community is in an uproar after EA announces that Sims 5 is not coming

EA’s latest update on the mysterious Project Rene is here, and with it comes a lot of controversy. It’s been revealed that The Sims 4 will remain the focus of the series and that Project Rene, which is widely believed to be the codename for The Sims 5will instead become a multiplayer game.

If that news doesn’t fill you with confidence for the life simulation series’ future, you’re not alone. Fans around the world haven’t taken the news well, with thousands of players taking their opinions to every corner of the internet.

Sims fans are unhappy that Sims 5 is not in future plans

This has led to many players calling the current iteration of the series the worst yet, such as in this Twitter post:

With over 11,000 likes, it seems the opinion is popular, and the sentiment is reflected in posts like this one which states that Sims5 could be the success of the franchise, but without this the series would have nowhere to go:

R/thesims, one of the most popular subreddits for the game, has also been busy with similar posts, like this one saying they can’t handle the many years of content planned for the fourth installment:

Judging by the number of upvotes and comments, many players apparently feel the same way.

We talked about how expensive The Sims 4 is earlier, and with the announcement that EA plans to continue developing the game for years to come, that price is only going to go up. Many players have said that they feel the fourth game is long past its sell-by date, and that they can’t have any more of it.

Some players even believe this is the death knell for the entire franchise:

We’ve talked about how expensive The Sims 4 is before, and with the announcement that EA plans to continue developing the game for years to come, that price is only going to increase. These popular posts agree that EA is just squeezing the game for as much money as possible and cares way more about the money than the series itself.

While it seems like the most popular comments are negative, it’s not all doom and gloom. Some Simmers say that as long as development continues for Sims4 furthermore, they are not devastated by the fact that there will be no sequel:

The Sims has remained at the top of the life simulation game genre since its debut in 2000, and only time will tell if this decision not to continue The Sims 5 and instead focus on the current installment and spin-offs will keep it there.
