The Most Iconic Moments in US National Team Olympic History

  • The US women’s national soccer team will face Brazil in the Olympic final on Saturday.
  • This is the third time in Olympic history that the US and Brazil will compete for the gold medal.
  • The match is the last chance for Brazilian football legend Marta to win a major international tournament.

For the first time since 2012, the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) has a shot at gold at the Olympic Games.

But to win the fifth gold medal in Olympic history, the team must first defeat Brazil, led by legendary soccer star Marta, in the final international tournament of her career.

According to ESPN, USWNT forward Trinity Rodman (22) told reporters at a pre-match press conference that “Marta has changed the game of soccer around the world,” but that the US wants to win gold.

“I love her, but we want to win,” she said.

In honor of the third gold medal match between these groundbreaking teams in Olympic history, here’s a look back at 10 of the U.S. national team’s most iconic Olympic moments.
