“That was a divine achievement”

Team USA had to fight back from a 17-point deficit against Serbia on Thursday to finally secure a spot in the Olympic final in Paris, against none other than the French hosts. The European side led the scoreboard for 90% of the game, but Stephen Curry’s stunning performance inspired the American comeback in what will go down as a historic match.

The Warriors guard was on fire this Thursday as he scored 36 points on 12/19 shooting to lead his team to a 95-91 victory at Bercy Arena. After the game, his teammates were full of praise for his unforgettable performance and explained why the victory would have been impossible without him.

“That was a godsend,” Kevin Durant told reporters. “That was tough because he felt like he was struggling the whole tournament. And we said every night it could be someone else. And tonight he showed up.”

The Phoenix striker was so impressed with Steph’s performance that he even dared to describe him as a godlike figure, or to suggest that something heavenly was acting through him to perform this miracle.

“God was with him tonight,” he said of Curry. “He was with us tonight… He was everywhere. It was one of the best games I’ve ever seen him play.”

In the final 2 minutes of the game, the Golden State icon scored 7 points, including a steal that he converted into a layup that extended the lead to five points. Finally, with 8 seconds left on the clock, he hit two free throws that completely destroyed the Serbian aspirations.

His eight rebounds in the game were second only to LeBron James’ 12. “It was just a matter of time before he had one of these games,” the Lakers star said. “We see it every day. He puts in too much work not to have a game like this. We wouldn’t have it any other way. It was a perfect time for Chef to come in and do what he did.”

After the match, Curry admitted he had “the most fun” in a “really long time” in the semi-final against Serbia

Let’s put it this way. Stephen hadn’t really made an impression throughout the Olympic tournament, but he showed up when he was needed most. The Warriors superstar scored 36 points on just 19 shots. “This is everything I imagined,” he said after the win.

“This is obviously my first time playing in the Olympics. I knew we were going to be challenged by a great Serbian team and it was going to be tough to beat them three times this summer. I just kind of got caught up in that moment of understanding how big the stage is and what’s at stake for this team, and that was special,” Curry revealed. “This is the most fun I’ve had in a long time.”

As for Steve Kerr, who is also his coach at Golden State, he admitted he was proud to be a part of the achievement, even calling it “one of the best basketball games” he’s ever been a coach in.

“I’m really honored to have been a part of this game,” he said. “It’s one of the best basketball games I’ve ever been a part of. They were perfect. They played a perfect game. Our coaches said Villanova-Georgetown, for all of our older readers and viewers.”
