Team of the Week: Sebastopol 12U softball team

Museum volunteer Hezekiah Watkins shared his harrowing experience as the youngest Freedom Rider incarcerated in Parchman Prison. Museum director Michael Morris emphasized the staff’s engagement with visitors about the significance of the day. Despite Juneteenth’s national recognition, it is not a state holiday in Mississippi, a fact criticized by Senator John Horhn. A bill to make Juneteenth a holiday failed in the state legislature, but supporters plan to reintroduce it.
