North Tipperary Wheelers were delighted to host the Tour De Lough Derg 2024 last Sunday. The weather was ideal for a perfect day of cycling. About 70 cyclists set off from the picturesque lakeside village of Garrykennedy and rode clockwise around Lough Derg, via Ballina/Killaloe, Tuamgraney and Mountshannon before stopping for a drink in Whitegate. From there we continued to Gorteeney, Portumna, Terryglass and Puckaun before passing through the outskirts of Nenagh and returning to Larkin’s in Garrykennedy for a well deserved refreshment.

There was some very good racing-style cycling, especially in the lead pack, which averaged 37.3km per hour over the 122km route, with 822m of climbing thrown in for good measure. This year’s chosen charity partner was North Tipperary Hospice. The club thanks all stewards, marshals, first aiders, security guards, participants and other road users for their help and patience.
