Start/Sit Pitchers – Fantasy Baseball Contests for 07/29 – 08/04 (2024)

August is here, so let’s start another round of summer from our starting pitcher starts/sits for fantasy baseball Week 19 — Monday July 29th through Sunday August 4th. This week’s edition takes us through the trade deadline, so be prepared for all sorts of rapid changes. We’ll stay updated so you can make the best decisions on two starts and start/sit.

For 12 years now, we here at RotoBaller have been writing this weekly series about starting pitchers and sit-ups. My name is Nick Mariano and I am your captain for this odyssey through the 2024 season. A lot of firepower and TLC goes into delivering this piece every week. We get a lot of great feedback on it every year.

If you’re new here, read below to get up to speed on the purpose of this piece and how to best use it. Good luck with your fantasy baseball starting pitcher lineup decisions!

Start/Sit Data Overview

Before each week of the fantasy baseball season, we publish the table below. We list the probable starters for each game of the week and grade them on a scale of 0-100. The idea is to give you some advice and instill some confidence (or lack thereof) in your decisions to start or sit certain pitchers.

Note that in addition to the usual “Start” and “Sit” labels, there is a third category called “context-dependent.” This is because different leagues call for different actions, and those in start-sit purgatory may be worth a gamble for some. We also list arms that are best projected to start or get bulk innings, or action-oriented arms that could potentially return from the injured list, but some situations are fluid, especially with the transfer deadline here, and we’ll update as quickly as possible to reflect accurate information.

The “starts” category includes pitchers you’d likely start in any league. The “sits” are pitchers you’d likely leave in any league. The “context-dependent” means it’s close and you’ll have to decide for yourself based on your league setup or team needs (wins, strikeouts, etc.). How deep your league is, what rota/point categories, etc. Let’s get started! Here are your starts and sits for what we’re calling Week 19 of the fantasy season, which runs from July 29th through August 4th.
