Springfield all-area softball team for 2024

Here are The State Journal-Register’s 2024 softball players.

Twelve honorees were chosen from both the large schools and small schools in the area, for a total of 24. They are listed in alphabetical order.

BIG SCHOOL

Ava Bobb, Chatham Glenwood

The freshman shortstop rose to a .446 batting average. She totaled 33 hits, 35 RBIs and 39 runs, including eight home runs. She was named to the Central State Eight Conference second team.

Cassie Feld, Chatham Glenwood

The all-CS8 first team and Illinois Coaches Association All-State first team pick in Class 3A produced a .557 average with 54 hits, 47 RBIs, 31 runs and seven home runs. Her 21 career home runs set a school record. The senior first baseman/pitcher also went 8-2 with a 1.58 ERA, totaling 62 strikeouts and four walks. She will play at Lake Land College.

MacKenzie Gerard, Jacksonville

The senior shortstop/catcher/pitcher had 31 hits with 20 RBIs, 24 runs and a .443 average, including one home run. She was all CS8 first team and will play at Monmouth College.

Taryn Griffith, Chatham Glenwood

The junior catcher was selected from the first CS8 team. She hit .429 with 39 hits, 42 RBIs and five home runs.

Tamaih Jefferson, Lanphier

The senior shortstop was named to the CS8 second team and generated a .489 average with 22 hits, 14 RBIs and 36 runs. She will play at Domincian University.

Ryleigh Kiel, Chatham Glenwood

The sophomore outfielder collected all-CS8 second-team and ICA all-state second-team honors in Class 3A. She hit .483 with 43 hits, 22 RBIs and 37 runs.

Kendall Knauer, Springfield High

The senior catcher produced a .432 average with 32 hits, 20 RBIs and 21 runs. She was named all-CS8 second team and ICA all-state third team in Class 3A.

Irie Lohrenz, Chatham Glenwood

The second-year ace dominated with a 17-2 record and a 1.37 ERA to lead the Titans to the CS8 title. She totaled 141 strikeouts and only 15 walks in 107 1/3 innings. She also hit .314 at the plate with 16 hits and 11 RBIs. She was all CS8 first team and ICA all-state second team in Class 3A.

Raegan Rezba, Rochester

The senior outfielder posted a .371 average with 36 hits, 16 RBIs and 40 runs, including two home runs. She picked up all-CS8 first team and ICA all-state second team in Class 3A. She will play at Illinois College.

Taryn Stoltzenburg, Lincoln

The senior outfielder had a .431 average with 45 runs. She was all CS8 first team and ICA all-state third team in Class 3A. She will play at Webster University.

Mia Volpert, Springfield High

The junior ace played on both sides of the ball and was named all CS8 first team and ICA all-state first team in Class 3A. She hit .552 with 37 hits, 23 RBIs, 42 runs and eight home runs. She also finished 15-6 with a 1.12 ERA, including 226 strikeouts and only 21 walks in 124 2/3 innings.

Kenzie Wieland, Sacred Heart Griffin

The freshman pitcher finished with a 1.76 ERA while collecting 231 strikeouts and 47 walks in 127 innings. The all-CS8 first teamer also hit .383 with 23 hits, 28 RBIs and 18 runs, including seven home runs.

SMALL SCHOOLS

Lilly Bandy, Staunton

The junior catcher had a .506 batting average with 40 hits, 22 RBIs and 40 runs, including seven home runs. She was named to the Illinois Coaches Association second team in Class 2A.

Polar bears: How Carlinville softball is among the region’s best in 2A

Hallie Gibson, Carlinville

The second-year ace rose in the circle with a 1.29 ERA and 241 strikeouts in 171 2/3 innings. She also delivered 24 hits and 14 RBIs. She was selected to the South Central Conference first team and the ICA all-state second team in Class 2A.

Emma Gipson, Gillespie

The senior pitcher put together another stellar year on both sides of the ball. She struck out 243 and walked 36 in 178 innings for a .083 ERA and 24-3 record. Gipson, who was named all-SCC first team and ICA all-state first team in Class 2A, hit .430 with 43 hits, 35 RBIs and 14 runs, including seven home runs. She was previously named SJ-R’s Small School Softball Player of the Year the past two seasons. She will play at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

Taylor Nolan, Staunton

The senior infielder hit .519 with 42 hits, 28 RBIs and 38 runs, including two home runs. She was named all-SCC first team and ICA all-state third team.

Ava Parish, Gillespie

The second-year shortstop posted a .456 average with 52 hits, 31 RBIs and 49 runs. She also hit 10 leadoff home runs. She earned all-SCC first team and ICA all-state second team in Class 2A.

Taylor Patterson, Auburn/Lutheran

The Sangamo Conference first team and ICA all-state second team in Class 2A totaled 53 hits with 33 RBIs, 40 runs and four home runs. The junior second baseman ultimately finished with a batting average of .421.

Naomi Roberts, Williamsville

The senior infielder/outfielder was unanimous all-Sangamo first-team and ICA all-state second-team in Class 2A. She had 47 hits, 21 RBIs and 38 runs with a .439 average.

Bright future: Pawnee’s future is in good hands with sophomore Ava Rodriguez-Mansholt

Ava Rodriguez-Mansholt, Pawnee

All-MSM Conference first team and ICA all-state second team in Class 1A, the sophomore catcher/infielder posted a .475 average with 28 hits, 32 RBIs and 28 runs, including six home runs in 19 games.

Kamryn Stevig, Buffalo Tri-City/Sangamon Valley

All-MSM first team and ICA all-state second team in Class 2A, the senior infielder boasted a .500 average with 44 hits, 40 RBIs and 31 runs.

Meena Taylor, Auburn/Lutheran

The unanimous Sangamo Conference first team and ICA all-state first team in Class 2A led the Trojans to their first state finals on both sides of the ball. She distributed 50 hits with 31 RBIs, 21 runs and two home runs. As a junior, she posted a .420 batting average. She finished 18-5 with a 1.35 ERA in the circle. She struckout 243 batters and walked only 37 in 149 2/3 innings.

Isabella Tiburzi, Carlinville

The junior first baseman ushered in a .432 average with 41 hits, 17 RBIs and 24 runs, including one home run. She was named all-SCC first team and ICA all-state second team in Class 2A.

Lily Woodworth, Buffalo Tri-City/Sangamon Valley

The second-year ace was 18-5 with a 1.71 ERA. She recorded 244 strikeouts and 59 walks in 143 innings. She also hit .300 with 24 hits and 26 RBIs. She was named all-MSM first team and ICA all-state third team.
