Ranking movers: Purcell rises after reaching first ATP singles final | July 1, 2024 | All news | News and Features | news and events

Max Purcell returns to the top 70 in the world after achieving the best singles result of his career at an ATP grass tournament in Great Britain.

Men’s singles

Max Purcell is the biggest riser in the latest ATP Tour singles rankings, moving up 26 places this week. This follows the 26-year-old’s progress to his first tour-level singles final at a grass court event in Britain.

Purcell dropped outside the top 100 two weeks ago, but after winning eight of his ten matches in the past two weeks he is now ranked number 68 in the world.

Aleksandar Vukic also returns to the top 70 in the world this week. The 28-year-old jumps up 12 places to world number 69 after advancing to his second semi-final at ATP level.

Meanwhile, Adam Walton is on the verge of returning to the top 100, moving up six spots to world number 101 after claiming his first tour-level main draw win in Spain.

Maya Joint sets a new record in the latest WTA Tour singles rankings.

The 18-year-old, who trains at Tennis Australia’s National Tennis Academy in Brisbane, rose four places to world number 168 this week. This makes Joint the sixth highest ranked teenager in the world.

Another 18-year-old, Melisa Ercan, is the biggest mover of the week. She jumps 81 places to No. 359 in the world rankings after winning eight of her nine matches on the ITF Tour in the past two weeks. This includes a title-winning run at a tournament in Spain.

Matt Ebden will enter Wimbledon as the world number 1 in the ATP Tour doubles rankings. He is the first Australian to achieve this feat since Todd Woodbridge in 2001.

The 36-year-old extended his lead atop the rankings by reaching a final in Eastbourne last week alongside compatriot John Peers, who moves up four places to world number 51.

Joshua Charlton is one of the biggest risers of the week, jumping 27 places to No. 362 in the world rankings for his career. The 24-year-old has won 25 of his 30 matches this season, including five title-winning runs.

Ellen Perez consolidated her place in the world’s top 10 with a title at a WTA 500 tournament in Germany last week.

It was the fourth tour-level final of the season for the 28-year-old, who is ranked ninth in the world in the latest WTA Tour doubles rankings.

Perez was also announced as a member of the Australian Olympic team this week and will partner good friend Daria Saville in the women’s doubles in Paris.

Unfortunately, Storm Hunter, the world number 6 and Australia’s top woman, will miss the Olympics due to injury.
