Port McNeill council approves application for a skateboarding ‘passion project’

At its June 11 meeting, Port McNeill City Council received a passion project application from local resident Kolby Ewen, who wants to provide skateboarding lessons to North Island youth on the basketball courts of North Island Secondary School or Sunset Elementary School.

Ewen noted in his application that he wants to learn the basics of skateboarding in 10 sessions while continuing to organize his pop-up skate park events around the city. He requested the maximum allowable amount for passion projects ($1,000) to help purchase three new complete skateboards, three sets of pads, three helmets and wood/supplies to create new ramps to learn on.

Port McNeill Chief Administrative Officer Brenda Johnson confirmed in an email that the council had made a motion to support Ewen’s passion project application.
