Pep Guardiola shocked Community Shield viewers by throwing his water bottle to the ground after a goalless first half before storming down the Wembley tunnel.

His team, Manchester City, endured a frustrating first 45 minutes against Man United in the season opener this afternoon.

And although the match was on the line, Guardiola reacted angrily to his team’s performance when the whistle blew.

Manchester City’s manager was furious when the players left the pitch, apparently because goalkeeper Ederson had kicked the ball out of bounds just before half-time.

Guardiola then took his frustration out on City’s goalkeeping coach, but he did so in no subtle way: he berated the keeper in front of thousands of fans at Wembley.

The two teams faced off this afternoon in the Community in what was the third Manchester derby under the arches in the past 15 months.

The Red Devils recently won 2-1 in the FA Cup final in May, which was a nice icing on the cake of Erik Ten Hag’s poor season.

Alejandro Garnacho put Old Trafford ahead after half an hour, before England international Kobbie Mainoo doubled the lead in the 39th minute, making the teenager a real ‘man of the match’.

City’s Jeremy Doku made sure the team’s many supporters could cheer with a consolation goal in the 87th minute.

A year earlier, it was City who celebrated victory at Wembley with a 2-1 win over United, kicked off by the fastest goal in FA Cup final history.

Ilkay Gundogan gave Guardiola’s side the lead within 12 seconds and the Premier League champions never looked back, claiming second prize in a season in which they won three games.

Both teams had few chances in the first half today at Wembley on a damp and overcast August afternoon.

It was no surprise that City dominated the ball in the early stages and United’s midfield, featuring Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount, could do little about it.

Oscar Bobb seemed the best candidate to help Guardiola’s men and the Norwegian forward almost single-handedly scored when he cut inside from the wing and fired the ball just over the bar.

The Red Devils ignored the warning and a few seconds later James McAtee did the same, but came even closer. His shot hit the post.

United then came back with an even bigger chance when Amad Diallo ripped through the City defence before a botched one-two with Mason Mount left the goal begging needlessly.

Guardiola was very lively throughout the first half, shouting orders at his players and often walking around with his head in his hands as his team struggled to get along.

As the City team left the pitch in annoyance at half-time, the Spaniard’s anger boiled over. The manager was particularly angry at his poor goalkeeping coach.
