Patrick Beverley on playing in Israel: ‘Now I know how LeBron James feels’

Mike Breen: “Comparison is the thief of joy,” and I love that line and when you start saying okay who’s better? LeBron… You end up criticizing the one you don’t pick and we’re criticizing one of the best players ever, I’ve never understood that. And the other thing is every era is different. LeBron James is the best player of his era, Kobe Bryant, you can say he was in his era, Michael Jordan for sure. Go back to Kareem, go back to Wilt, go back to Bill Russell. The game is so different, it was played differently 20 years ago, 40 years ago, it was coached differently, it was refereed differently… To compare eras and say he’s better than that player or that player is the greatest of all time, I just can’t do it. If you want to tell me you think Michael Jordan is the greatest of all time, I’m like, I can’t disagree with you. You tell me LeBron, I can’t disagree with you. You tell me Wilt Chamberlin, I can’t disagree with any of them. They’re all generational legendary players, I can’t possibly pick one over the other. I always say it this way: Someone asked me, ‘Do you think LeBron James, because I’ve covered so many of his games and it’s been an honor to cover his games, do you think he’s the greatest of all time?’ And I say I can’t say that, but what I can say is he’s second to none. -via YouTube / September 4, 2024
