The Edmonton Oilers remain alive in the 2024 Stanley Cup Finals. On Tuesday, the Oilers defeated the Florida Panthers 5-3 in game five of the best of seven series. With the win, the Oilers stayed alive in the postseason, but still trailed the Panthers by three games.

Oilers captain and center Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario played perhaps the best game of his life. He had two goals and two assists for four points. One of his assists was a highlight-reel pass to Canadian Olympic gold medalist Corey Perry of New Liskeard, Ontario. Perry won a gold medal for Canada at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Two Canadians on the Oilers played a multi-point game. The other was defenseman Evan Bouchard of Oakville, Ont., who had three assists.

All five of Oiler’s goal scorers were Canadians. In addition to McDavid and Perry, the Oilers’ scorers were Toronto’s Connor Brown and Zach Hyman. Brown’s goal was an impressive short-handed goal where he intercepted a Panthers pass at a point in their own zone. Brown then skated around the ice and scored a breakaway goal on Sergei Bobrovsky to open the scoring at the 5:30 mark of the first period. Game six of the Stanley Cup Finals returns to Edmonton on Friday.
