OCA to include Yogasana as demonstration sport at 2026 Asian Games

India’s ancient sport, yogasana, was on Sunday included as a demonstration event at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The inclusion of yogasana in the Asian Games calendar as a demonstration sport was unanimously approved at the 44th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia, where India’s Randhir Singh was elected unopposed as OCA president for a four-year term from 2024 to 2028.

“Yoga will be a demonstration sport in Nagoya as the calendar for the 2026 Asian Games has already been made and approved,” Randhir said.

“In 10 days, we managed to convince all the members to include yoga, which is promoted by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the programme.

“All other sports have a risk of injury, but yoga is a sport that rejuvenates your body,” he added.

Randhir said yoga must make an impact at the Nagoya Games to be included as a medal event in the 2030 Asian Games.

“In Nagoya, yoga must be felt. We must tell other countries about the benefits of yogasana. We must send instructors and teach other countries and make it popular,” he said.
