North Korean ‘people’s athlete’ wins bronze in Olympic women’s boxing

One of North Korea’s most successful boxers retired from the Paris Olympics on Sunday after a hard-fought bout, adding a bronze medal to the country’s list of honours at the first Summer Games in eight years.

Pang Chol Mi, 29, received a narrow loss of 3-2 against her Chinese rival Chang Yuan, but she secured the DPRK’s third medal at the Games by reaching the semi-finals of the women’s 54 kg (bantamweight) boxing event.
