Mia Miller makes the most of final Waterloo season: All-Metro spring softball player of the year

Mia Miller finished atop Waterloo’s all-time strikeouts (790) and wins (51) leaderboards, and she guided the Bulldogs to their top ranking in team history this season.

Sam Roulanaitis, Freeburg

Sam Roulanaitis, Freeburg


P: Sam Roulanaitis, senior, Freeburg

The righthander was a dominant force in the circle with a 24-2 record and an ERA of 1.05. She faced 322 batters in 167 innings – an average of 13.5 strikeouts per game. Heading to Lindenwood University, Roulanaitis pitched a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts in a win over Roxana on April 4. She retired 10 or more batters 19 times, including 18 against Newton on April 19. She also led the Midgets with nine home runs and 40 RBI. .

C: Raelyn Melching, senior, Waterloo

Helped Bulldogs to a fourth-place finish at the Class 3A state tournament with eight home runs and 43 RBI. Batted .383 with a .723 slugging percentage. I drove in three runs or more five times, highlighted by a two-homer, 7-RBI effort against New Athens. Served as a perfect complement to pitcher Mia Miller, who earned Player of the Year honors.

Led the entire area with 71 RBI, 26 more than her nearest competitor. Batted .480 and had 19 multi-hit games, including three 4-for-4 performances. Only struck out twice in the last 63 at bats. Recorded seven RBI against Ste. Genevieve on April 18.







Jillian Lane, Edwardsville

Jillian Lane, Edwardsville


AS: Jillian Lane, senior, Edwardsville

Helped the Tigers to a 23-9 record and a share of the Southwestern Conference title by hitting .402. Ended the season on a 5-for-14 tear as Edwardsville reached the Class 4A sectional round. Started the season hitting safely in eight of the first nine games and never slowed down.







Jaylyn Brister, Columbia

AS: Jaylyn Brister, senior, Columbia

Provided the Eagles with a team-best 41 RBI. Also the best team with a slugging percentage of .780. Had RBI in six of her last seven games. Started the season with four RBI in a 7-5 win over Jerseyville. Recorded a hit or RBI in 27 of 32 games.







Lindsey Muskopf, Freeburg

Lindsey Muskopf, Freeburg


AS: Lindsey Muskopf, senior, Freeburg

Hit a team-best .479 in helping Midgets to a 31-4 record. She was extremely consistent, finishing the season with a 23-game hitting streak. Hit safely or score a run in every match. Record nine multi-hit games. Will continue her career at Parkland College in Champaign.







Ashlynn Samson, Belleville East

Had a team-best 45 RBI to help the Lancers share the Southwestern Conference title and reach the Class 4A sectional final. Threw out six runners from the outfield and made only three errors.

Reached .477 with an on-base percentage of .555. Had at least two goals in five of the last seven games. Got 15 bases without getting caught. Only struck out 11 times in a team-high 129 plate appearances. Helped the Eagles to a 21-11 score.

UT: Olivia Hemmerle, junior, Belleville East

Compiled a 24-9 record in the circle with a 1.74 ERA. She gave up just two home runs in 176 innings, while striking out 267. She recorded 15 strikeouts against SWC rivals Alton and O’Fallon in an 11-day span. Hemmerle also hit .445.

UT: Calista Stahlhut, senior, Roxana

Batted .514 with a .750 slugging percentage. Had three games of four RBI or more, including a five-RBI effort against Alton Marquette. Also a 10-8 mark in the circle with 163 strikeouts in 117 innings. Will continue her career at St. Louis Community College.







Anna Gall, Wesclin

UT: Anna Gall, senior, Wesclin

Hit .417 with a team-best six home runs and 40 RBI. Hit safely in all but three games this season. Went 4-for-4 with two RBI in a 9-4 postseason win over Breese Central. Warriors won 24 of 33 games and captured a regional title before losing to Newton.

P: Emma Gipson, senior, Gillespie

Registered a 26-3 mark in circle with a .83 ERA. Fanned out 242 in 178 innings. Also led team with seven home runs and 34 RBI. On the way to SIU Carbondale.

C: Bailey Demick, junior, Collinsville

Hit .417 with a slugging percentage of .784. Started the season on an 8-for-9 tear.

IF: Ava Parish, sophomore, Gillespie

Shivered nine at home and hit .473. Allowed 27 bases while being caught. Led territory with 49 points scored.

IF: Makenna Budde, senior, Breese Central

Her .828 slugging percentage was third in the area. Hit .484 with a team-high 24 RBI.

IF: Phoebe Feldman, senior, Triad

Batted .450 with a .680 slugging percentage. Had a team-high 28 RBI.

AS: Emma Fetters, senior, Belleville East

He drove in 43 runs and had three RBI in playoff wins over Quincy and rival Edwardsville.

OR: Katy Huels, senior, Mater Dei

Recorded a team-best .642 slugging percentage. Had RBI in last six games. On the way to Murray State University.

OR: Abi Monroe, freshman, Belleville East

Had a batting average of .464 with 18 RBI. Stole 17 bases and was caught only once.

UT: Riley Nelson, junior, Edwardsville

Went 18-9 in the circle with 1.62 ERA and also hit .303 with a team-high 31 RBI.

UT: Lyla Hess, senior, Red Bud

Reach .423 with a slugging percentage of .615. Started the season with an eight-game hitting streak.

UT: Julia Ohlau, freshman, Red Bud

Went 7-2 in the circle with a 2.52 ERA. Also hitting .529 with 40 RBI and a .748 slugging percentage.
