McCain picked by 76ers in first round of NBA Draft

BROOKLYN, NY – Duke men’s basketball was added to NBA Draft history as a freshman on Wednesday night at Barclays Center Jared McCain was selected in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 16th overall pick.

The Blue Devils have had at least one first-round selection in 13 of the last 14 drafts. With McCain’s selection, Duke extended its streak of at least one freshman to eleven consecutive years.

Wednesday night was also remarkable for the second-year head coach Jon Scheyer, who now has three first-round draft picks as the Blue Devils’ lead mentor. Duke has produced 23 first-round picks since Scheyer joined the coaching staff in 2013-14.

Duke is among the most productive college basketball programs when it comes to generating picks in the NBA Draft. Currently, it boasts 110 total selections. This makes it one of four college programs of all time that have made more than 100 choices.
