Former WTA tennis legend Martina Navratilova focused on the moment Novak Djokovic is facing. The Serbian champion is coming off a season in which he did not win a single title and in which he did not play his best tennis, both physically and technically. A season that was softened by the moving victory in the gold medal final at the Olympic Games in Paris against Carlitos Alcaraz. And partly by the unexpected Wimbledon final that he lost to the young Spaniard, but which came a month after an operation on the meniscus of his right knee.

However, according to Navratilova, it is time for Noël to retire.

“He got what he really wanted, which was the Olympic gold medal, but he still wants the 25th Grand Slam to get one more than Margaret Court. Time will catch up with him, or maybe it already has, because in the last match he was not himself,” she said, referring to her third-round loss at the US Open.

“It all depends on how much the fire is still burning. If it’s still burning, I’ll never say don’t play because it will never tarnish his legacy, he’s incredibly good. I’m sure his wife is saying, ‘Is it time to retire, how many more do you need?’” she added.

Regarding a possible retirement for the Serbian champion, Martina said: “Maybe one more, but on the other hand, if he wins the Australian Open, he wants to play Roland Garros and Wimbledon, right? He won’t just stop. It’s up to him. Anyway, you can’t criticize him, because it’s a fantastic career.**, but if he likes to play, why not?” she analyzed

Nole had not accustomed his fans to such difficult moments. The relentless age, perhaps the loss of motivation, a few too many physical ailments, have given the Serbian champion one of the worst seasons of his career, from a physical point of view. The only highlight that the former number one has experienced this season was the Olympic gold that he had been striving for his entire career, but which he had not managed to achieve. Paradoxically, he did so in a season in which he has not yet won an ATP title, at least so far.
