Man United star ‘happy’ with decision to keep Erik ten Hag and promises more trophies will follow

Manchester United’s decision to stay with Erik ten Hag has brought ‘peace of mind’ to star Kobbie Mainoo. The midfielder promised that there would be more trophies under the Dutchman.

United ended a dismal campaign on a high by winning the FA Cup against rivals Manchester City, with the domestic cup victory going some way to offsetting what had been a turbulent season to that point.

The club exited the Champions League before Christmas and finished eighth in the Premier League, creating uncertainty over Ten Hag’s future that lingered long after his success in the cup.

The early stages of the off-season were littered with rumors of a change in the dugout, with Ipswich boss and former United coach Kieran McKenna closely linked with the takeover at Old Trafford before signing a new contract with newly promoted Tractor Boys.

Mauricio Pochettino’s departure from Chelsea led to renewed ties with the United hotseat, but speculation finally ended last week when it was confirmed that Ten Hag would remain in his role as manager.

The former Ajax boss made Mainoo his debut against Everton last November and went on to impress with 32 appearances throughout the campaign, culminating in a fine goal in the cup final against City.

The 19-year-old explained that the decision to retain Ten Hag had brought ‘peace of mind’ and stated that more silverware would come under his leadership.

He said: ‘I’m obviously happy to continue building with him.

‘He has won two trophies and there will be more to come.

‘It’s nice to have the peace of mind that we know which manager we’re going back to in pre-season.

“I’m so grateful to him for putting his trust in me and believing in me to play in the team. I can’t thank him enough.’
