Macy Chiasson finds herself in the running for the title after victory at UFC 303

LAS VEGAS – Macy Chiasson believes she is close to a title fight and she just needs a few more results to do so.

The Ultimate Fighter 28 winner believes she’s in contention for title contention after her most recent victory. Chiasson (11-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) defeated Bueno Silva (10-4-1 MMA, 5-4-1 UFC) by TKO on the main card of Saturday’s UFC 303. Now on a two-fight winning streak, the 32-year-old believes it’s just a matter of winning one or two more fights before the UFC stages a championship fight.

“I hope so, and I feel like I’m (just one or two wins away from a title fight),” Chiasson told reporters at the UFC 303 post-fight press conference. “I feel like I’ve been working hard and I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. Mick Maynard and Dana (White) have been taking good care of me, so whatever they want for me, I want it.”

Raquel Pennington is rumored to be defending her women’s bantamweight title later this year against former champion Julianna Peña. While it’s not official yet, Chiasson is open to serving as a backup for that fight or taking on Kayla Harrison, who is also trying to capture the title.

“Potentially,” Chiasson said when asked about a fight with Harrison. ‘Of course there have been discussions about it. I have a few ideas about who to fight for me, but like I said, the UFC has taken a lot of care of me, so whatever Dana and Mick want for me, I want to compete.

Chiasson took nearly two years away from the sport in 2022 and she believes that time helped her improve her game. She’s curious to see what this latest version of her has to offer.

“I needed time off to eat more calories,” Chiasson said. “Making 135 was terrible. I was running 40 miles a week in addition to doing camps, and I was only getting worse. My mental health started to deteriorate and I wasn’t sure if I would fight again. There was a moment when I thought it was over. That was kind of a low point for me, and I think getting through that and overcoming all the kinks really got me to where I am today.
