Little League: Thornydale over Continental Ranch 8-7 in 9-11 baseball action; updated schedules

Trailing 6-1 after the first inning against Continental Ranch, the 9-11 All-Stars from Thornydale took away that lead and ultimately won the second round playoff game 8-7 in seven innings. Thornydale will be held at the Arthur Pack Complex and will play Marana on Wednesday. Continental Ranch will face Flowing Wells in an elimination match later that evening.

Camden Stalter knocked in Ryder Smith to put Thornydale 1-0, but Ethan Alexander started things off for Continental Ranch in the bottom of the first inning with a bunt-single and then Isaac Pate followed by an infield hit. Foal Medlin walked to load the bases with no outs and then Owen Robinson singled with two outs to make it 1-1. Daniel Willis drove in two more runs with a double and Cameron Hall achieved via a hit-by throw, two and two up. Dominic Hernández singled and a run was scored on an error on the play, making it 4-1. Owen Brisley made it 6-1 on a two-run double to end the scoring.

Thornydale scored three runs in the top of the third inning to cut the lead to 6-4 after four straight walks and an RBI from Adam Romero. Romero took over the ball Javier Davila in the bottom of the third and he gave up an unearned run to give Continental Ranch a 7-4 lead, but he retired the next nine batters he faced to keep Thornydale within reach.

Wilbur Brandstätter single and Micha Meinke doubled him in to cut the lead to 7-5 in the fourth and Romero brought in Alex Figueroa in the fifth to make it 7-6. Stalter reached base in the top of the sixth inning to start the inning, but Thornydale had only one out left Teagan Yauch achieved after an error to give the team some hope. Stalter scored on the error to tie the game, then three straight walks and a wild pitch scored Yauch, putting Thornydale up 8-7.

Continental Ranch needed a point to keep the game going and Cade Johnson led off with an infield hit to bring in a runner, then Willis later drove him in with one out to tie the game at 7-7. Romero got out of trouble with two more strikeouts.

Smith reached on an error to start the seventh and Chase dew hit him to make it 8-7 Thornydale. Romero set the team up for the win in the bottom half of the inning.

Romero struckout nine while giving up one earned run. Davila added two more strikeouts. Dew went 2-3 with 2 RBI; Stalter went 2-4 with an RBI; Meinke had an RBI double and Romero had 2 RBI.

For Continental Ranch, Brisley, Robinson, Alexander, Pate and Parker Emery saw pitching action. Robinson struck out four. Willis went 2-3 with a double, triple and 3 RBI; Robinson had an RBI and Brisley had 2 RBI.
