Listowel golfer secures spot at Paris Olympics

A golfer from a small town near the region is heading to Paris to represent Canada this summer.

Corey Connors, a native of Listowel, Ontario, qualified for the Olympics after his performance at the US Open last week.

Connors even finished at the tournament, good for ninth place overall.

Listowel Golf Club general manager Brett Maue says everyone at home is still keeping a close eye on Connors’ career.

“Everyone was on their toes, knew what needed to be done, and just took pride in being able to get the job done and really put together four solid days,” Maue said.

Connors is still a member of Listowel Golf Club.

“He actually just built a house here on the golf course,” Maue said. “He still calls Listowel here when he has some free time in the summer.”

It will be his second appearance at the Olympic Games, after participating in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, where he finished 13th.

Winnipeg native Nick Taylor will team up with Connors to represent Canada at the Olympic Games this summer.
