Julian Savea extends contract with Moana Pasifika until 2025

Moana Pasifika have re-signed Julian Savea on a one-year deal to remain with the club for the 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season.

Savea played 54 tests for the All Blacks and was part of the 2015 Rugby World Cup winning campaign.

He is currently second on Super Rugby’s all-time leading try scorers list, having scored 62 times in his career and was overtaken by Hurricanes halfback TJ Perenara this season.

Moana Pasifika head coach Tana Umanga backed the veteran in his first season with Moana as he played the side’s second-highest minutes.

“Julian had an excellent year for us in a relatively new position in midfield,” said Umanga.

“I think he will only get better in this position. Once again this year he was a strong leader for us both on and off the field. He was able to show our young players how to be more professional in their approach to preparation and the match itself.”

Savea said he wants to try and make the 2025 Super Rugby play-offs with Moana, something they have yet to achieve in their three years in the competition.

“What I’m most looking forward to in 2025 is getting another chance to make the play-offs and improve as a team,” Savea said.

“For me personally, just become the best 12 in the competition.”
