Jonas Vingegaard’s start at the World Cup remains a possibility, but national coach thinks the course ‘suits him well’

Jonas Vingegaard is currently fully focused on the Tour de France, where the Dane, despite Tadej Pogacar’s number of defeats, still dreams of a comeback during the last three stages. But even if things don’t work out in France, Vingegaard has better things to look forward to – the birth of his second child.

That is also the reason why we will not see the Dane at the Olympic Games in two weeks. However, the Danish national coach still hopes that the Visma | Lease a Bike rider will appear at the World Championships in Zurich at the end of September.

“I didn’t talk to him about it in that context. We talked about the Olympics, but also about perspectives later in the season, but we agreed to talk after the Tour,” national coach Anders Lund told Ekstra Bladet.

But is that tough course to Vingegaard’s taste? National coach Lund thinks so: “He likes it very much, but the agreement is that we will talk after the Tour, depending on how it goes. In September there are the European and World Championships, I’m really looking forward to that. It’s one thing at a time. Jonas is going to ride the last week of the Tour.”
