Joe Gow will present his defense at the UW-La Crosse faculty hearing

Former UW-La Crosse Chancellor Joe Gow presents his evidence and sole witness on the second day of the public hearing that will determine his future at the university.

Gow’s only witness was interim Chancellor Betsy Morgan. Gow brought forward correspondence between himself and law firm Hush-Blackwell, as well as messages he had with Morgan, claiming he was cooperating with the investigation.

“I would love to take part in it,” read a message from Gow to Morgan.

Morgan did not respond to this email.

Gow then brought up emails between himself and a company he sought for representation. Morgan argued that Gow’s failure to hire an attorney was his own failure, and that other faculty investigated have found representation in all other circumstances.

Texts between Morgan and UW-L Police Chief Allan Hill revealed that Gow’s computers were sent to the home of UW General Quinn Williams on December 22. UW-L officials decided to fire Gow from his permanent faculty position in March after Gow produced and posted pornographic films featuring himself, his wife and other actors with adult content.

Interim Chancellor Betsy Morgan and members of the General Counsel of the Universities of Wisconsin presented UW-L’s case on Wednesday. The plaintiff alleged that Gow failed to cooperate with a required investigation, misused the university’s technology to further his online activities and could further damage the university’s reputation if he were to retain his faculty role.

Gow now has the opportunity to introduce his own evidence and witness list to the case. He has three hours to present.

The UW Board of Regents fired Gow as chancellor in December when the online pornographic videos came to light. Gow has since been suspended as a professor with pay.
