Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit have delivered their interpretation of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ “You’re Gonna Get It.” The single will appear as part of the soundtrack for a new Apple TV+ series, Bad monkeya crime comedy drama starring Vince Vaughn as a former detective turned restaurant inspector. The music release coincides with the series’ fourth episode, which opens today.

“You’re Gonna Get It” is taken from the second studio LP from Petty and the Heartbreakers, for which it’s named. Originally released in May 1978, the song has remained a favorite of the artist and his band’s extensive crop of original music. Given its Southern rock bent, the song maintains the authenticity of the frontman’s Florida roots, evident on Isbell’s cover—a thoughtful thread considering the television show’s Sunshine State setting.

The former Drive-By Truckers mainstay is ideal for reinterpreting Petty’s vocal and instrumental prowess, amplifying the song’s underlying theme of freedom and determination to break free from the constraints of life, relationships and other limitations.

Notably, The Tom Petty Estate released a tribute LP earlier this year, Small countrywho shows a similar flair for admiration and respect for the beloved music canon. While “You’re Gonna Get It” wasn’t on the aforementioned tracking list, other favorites were given the celebratory treatment from the likes of Dolly Parton (“Southern Accents”), Brothers Osborne (“I Won’t Back Down”), Margo Price Ft. Mike Campbell (“Ways to Be Wicked”) and more.
