Fantasy Baseball players sell for high prices

What MLB player are you trying to sell high right now, and why? And who would you try to get back?

Jameson Taillon (SP – CHC)

Jameson Taillon is on the rise now, and he may have just opened up a nice little sell-high window for you with this week’s win over the Orioles. Not only did he get off to a hot start and earn a win against one of the best offenses in baseball, but he also dropped his ERA below 3.00. After two starts in July, he has a 2.77 ERA with a .174 AVG, .191 OBP and .215 wOBA against. With pitching finally starting to decline across the league, managers in most fantasy formats are looking for pitching depth. With Taillon outperforming most of his underlying stats and also striking out just 72 over 87 1/3 IP, I’d definitely trade him for a hot hitter like Mark Vientos or Alec Burleson that another manager might not necessarily believe in.”

Byron Buxton (FROM – MINUS)

“I’m shopping Byron Buxton with the pushiness of a used car salesman trying to sell a 2007 Chevy Impala before it breaks down again. The oft-injured outfielder is on a roll, having collected 11 hits in his last 23 at-bats and looking like he just rolled off the dealership floor. But it’s a mirage. His current .282 batting average is 30 points higher than he expected, and his xwOBA is also poised to regress. But beyond that, you don’t want to rely on Buxton to carry you to a championship any more than you want to take that 2007 Impala on a cross-country road trip. Could you do it? Sure. Are you more likely to end up stranded 100 miles from the nearest auto repair shop in the middle of Nebraska? We both know the answer. I’d trade a young pitcher with potential like Tobias Meyers, or even just a mid-round draft pick. But whatever the return is… Sell, sell, sell!”

Max Scherzer (SP-TEX)

Max Scherzer is still a big name pitcher, and there’s a chance he could be traded in the coming weeks if the Rangers fall out of the race. They have Tyler Mahle and Jacob deGrom slowly recovering from surgeries, so they could even trade Scherzer and still sell to the fan base they’re competing with for a wild-card spot. Scherzer’s K-ratio is lagging behind career norms, and he just hasn’t looked as dominant as he used to since returning from the IL. Instead, he just looks, well, old.”
Joe Pisapia (FantasyPros)

Shota Imanaga (SP – CHC)

Shota-Imanaga – Since June 1, he has an ERA of five or better. Worse, he has a batting average of .279, which is a top-10 worst in that span, and a LOB% (left on base) of less than 60%, which is terrible. Some things can work in his favor, but I’m selling Shota’s all-star name value right now.”
