IWLCA names Lacrosse Staff Coaching Staff of the Year

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College women’s lacrosse coaching staff was named the ILWCA Northeast Region and National Coaching Staff of the Year on Thursday.

The technical staff consists of a head coach Acacia Walker-Weinsteinassociate head coach Jen Kent, assistant coaches Sam Apuzzo And Callahan Kent and graduate assistant Emily McDermott.

J. Kent coordinates one of the nation’s best defenses, ranking first in the ACC and fourth in the nation in allowing just 8.43 goals per game. BC allowed just 20 goals in three games in the ACC Tournament and fewer than 10 goals in 15 games.

The offense has had a balanced attack this season under Apuzzo, where BC was one of two teams with at least five players with 40 or more goals. The 372 goals scored this season are the third most in a singles season.

C. Kent helped to develop further Shea Dolce, who led the ACC in goals against average (8.75) and save percentage (.470). She will enter the top 10 in program history next season with 293 saves.

McDermott finished her first season as general manager for the Eagles, assisting with operations and travel.

The Eagles are coming off a magical season, coming back from a 6-0 deficit to defeat No. 1 Northwestern for a second national title in four seasons. BC won a second straight ACC Championship and posted a 20-3 record for the program’s third 20-win season (all since 2018).

At least seven players were named All-American through IWLCA, Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse Magazine. Additionally, eight players were named to the All-ACC Team and both Belle Smith And Sydney bowls repeated as ACC Players of the Year while Shea Dolce was named Goalkeeper of the Year after being named Freshman of the Year.

Fifteen players were also named to the ACC All-Academic Team, with Scales being named ACC Women’s Lacrosse Scholar Athlete of the Year. Rachel Clark, Scales and B. Smith were also Top 25 Tewaaraton finalists. Coach Walker-Weinstein was named Head Coach of the U.S. National Team earlier this season.

The Eagles lead the nation with 139 wins since 2017, with a pair of national titles, two ACC championships and seven straight national semifinal and national title appearances.
