“I was offered money…” Sean Strickland reveals he turned down crypto endorsements; slams Khamzat Chimaev for ‘scamming’ fans – FirstSportz

The UFC middleweight division is full of drama. The recent cryptocurrency scam has left tongues wagging and UFC middleweight Sean Strickland doesn’t hold back either. He recently took aim at a fellow fighter Khamzat Chimayev for his alleged involvement in the fraud.

Strickland recently commented on the video featuring Khamzat Chimaev’s manager, Majdi Shammas. The manager claimed he had no idea this was going to happen. Strickland claimed he was offered “a lot of money” to promote similar projects. He turned them down, citing ethical concerns.

I've been offered a ton of money to do this same exact thing...... Crazy man you're rich and still try to scam your fans........

The controversy revolved around a cryptocurrency called SMASH coin. Chimaev appeared in a promotional video for the digital currency. Shortly after, its value dropped by almost 96%, with approximately $1 million in losses due to the scam. All promotional videos for the scam crypto were quickly removed from Khamzat Chimaev’s social media.

The worlds of cryptocurrencies and combat sports are increasingly intertwined, with many fighters seeing it as a lucrative endorsement opportunity. However, the volatile nature of digital currencies raises ethical questions about whether athletes should be promoting products they may not fully understand.

Sean Strickland expressed his disbelief that wealthy fighters would engage in such practices out of sheer greed. He urged fight fans not to let the issue fade from public view so quickly. This is not the first time Strickland has taken aim at Chimaev. He previously refused to fight him in Saudi Arabia.
