Secondary school

The Houghton softball team will play in the Division III regional tournament today in Gladstone. The Gremlins face Grayling in the first semifinal at 10 a.m. Boyne City and Gladstone will play in the other semi-final at 12 noon. The winners will play the championship game at 2 p.m. We’ll air the Houghton semifinals, and the championship game if the Gremlins advance, on 97.7 The Wolf.

Hancock will compete in Norway today in the regional Division IV. Gogebic will face Bark River-Harris in the first semifinal at 10 a.m. The Bulldogs will face Ishpeming in the second semifinal at 1 p.m. The title match is scheduled for 4 p.m.

MLB

The Brewers defeated the Tigers 10-0 last night. Tobias Myers gave up a lead-off single in the first inning, but gave up no more hits for eight innings. Milwaukee struck out Reese Olson early, scoring five in the second inning and adding three more in the fourth. There were no home runs among the Crew’s 16 hits, but Blake Perkins hit a triple and Rhys Hoskins, Brice Turang and William Contreras hit a double. Turang had four hits; Perkins and Christian Yelich had three.

The Tigers host the Brewers again today. Casey Mize will start against Freddy Peralta. Coverage begins at 3:45 PM on 99.3 The Lift.

Before the game, Milwaukee brought in pitcher James Meeker from Nashville. Aaron Ashby was sent down.

Buddy Kennedy is no longer a Tiger. Kennedy was designated for assignment on Monday. His contract was bought by the Phillies.

N.B.A

The NBA championship series continues tomorrow night as the Celtics host the Mavericks. Boston leads the series 1-0.

NHL

The Panthers entertain the Oilers as the Stanley Cup series begins tonight.

Fishing

The annual Rice Lake Fishing Derby takes place tomorrow. Registration will take place tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Lake Linden-Hubbell Sportsmen’s Association clubhouse and tomorrow from 7:00 to 1:00. Tomorrow fishing will be open from 7am to 4pm. This is a family-oriented event, with admission prices only $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for juniors and $1.00 for children. For more details, click here.

No fishing licenses are required due to Michigan’s Free Fishing Weekend. All other fishing rules, including size and catch limits, still apply.
