Five-star recruit shows class after viral spelling mistake in Tennessee Football

Names can be difficult. Difficult to pronounce. Difficult to spell. Hard to remember. Even two-time Oscar nominee and one-time Hollywood comeback king John Travolta once introduced actor/singer Idina Menzel as Adele Dazeem in 2014.

Perhaps to celebrate the tenth anniversary of this all-time blunder, the Tennessee Volunteers football team managed to mangle the sign of a highly sought-after five-star recruit with a slightly less provocative name: David Sanders Jr.

At a dinner during a recruiting visit, the volunteers spelled his name “Davis,” and X/Twitter let the team know.

It seems appropriate to penalize the volunteers for an easily avoidable spelling mistake… but going after the cooking like that? Toxic.

Fortunately for the volunteers, Sanders Jr. took the spelling mistake to heart and even added a little humor in a post on Instagram:

“They may have misspelled my name, but we all know it’s one small (Rocky) step to reach the (Top) GBO.”

It appears that in addition to the skills to become 24/7 Sports’ No. 1 offensive tackle and No. 3 overall recruit in the class of 2025, Sanders Jr. would also like to have the kind of maturity and class head coaches across the country will want in their locker room, allowing Sanders Jr. becomes an even more desirable prospect.

Sanders Jr. has yet to make its final decision, so Tennessee and the handful of other lucky schools still on its short list, like the ACC’s Clemson Tigers and fellow SEC rivals Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide, will have to hold their breath a bit. longer to see where he decides to lend his coveted talents.
