First-year phenom honored with TGN Lacrosse Player of the Year award

Roy helped transform Oakmont’s boys lacrosse program from three wins last season to winning the league this year

Last week, The Gardner News held a vote to give readers a say in the winner of The Gardner News Lacrosse Player of the Year. The results of the poll, along with staff votes, were combined to determine the winner.

With 4,253 votes in the poll, Silas Roy of Oakmont boys lacrosse is TGN Lacrosse Player of the Year. His support from readers and staff votes proved the success and contributions of the freshmen this season.

Roy stepped up to help turn around the Spartans lacrosse program, which won just three games last season.

“He was critical in all aspects of the game for the new-look Spartans who went 11-8,” Oakmont coach Sean Nally said in naming Roy for the honor.

Roy also helped Oakmont win the Mid-Wach B title.

His biggest contributions include his 43 caused turnovers, which placed him first on the team in the category, and also led the team in ground balls (57). He added two goals and an assist and was named a Mid-Wach B First Team All-Star.
