Fan shocked to see Jonas Vingegaard with hairy legs

The question every cycling fan asks is: will Jonas Vingegaard be present in the Tour de France? If he does, he might need to get out a razor.

The defending champion is training with his Visma – Lease a Bike teammates in the French Alps, and YouTuber Josep Termans happened to see the killer bees up close.

Termans spoke to Danish outlet BT about the day he saw Vingegaard and his teammates Wout van Aert and Christophe Laporte training at the La Rosière ski resort, near the border between France and Italy.

They took a long drive, during which I followed them for an hour as they drove slowly,” Termans said. “The whole time I was behind them, Jonas was behind Wout van Aert and Christophe Laporte. That surprised me a bit.”

Why do cyclists shave their legs?

Termans said that Vingegaard looks good, but of course he cannot say much more.

“A lot of people ask me that, but it is impossible to say how good Jonas’ form is. While Laporte and Van Aert were in the lead – both in conversation and while driving – Jonas Vingegaard was more reserved during the training ride,” he explained. “They talked a lot. It was mainly Van Aert and Laporte who spoke to each other. Vingegaard also talked, but the other two are like a radio, they talk a lot.”

One thing that surprised Termans as he rode behind the Dane were his unshaven legs.

Visma – LAB provides important update on Jonas Vingegaard

“I was riding right behind Jonas and I was surprised that he had so much hair on his legs,” Termans said. “They rode a new bicycle. It was the same type of bike they normally have, but with a new paint job.”

Vingegaard is in a race against time after his crash in Spain. After the accident in the Basque Country and a twelve-day stay in hospital, Vingegaard finally resumed training. First it was in his native Denmark, before moving to Mallorca, and then to France.

The fan said the Visma boys had no problem with him persevering during training.

“They are very nice people. When I drove away I also said thank you and they appreciated that. If you give them space, they’re cool,” he said. “I’m lucky to meet the biggest stars on the roads.”

Termans lives in the area, works at the ski area and then rides the mountainous roads, both road and trail.

According to Visma – Lease a Bike, Vingegaard only rides to win, not just to appear. So if his form is not up to par, he may have to skip the Tour in 2024. Moreover, the decision about his participation in the biggest stage race of the year could very well come at the last minute.
