Exciting new venue for the 2024 Australian Longboard titles

Surfing Australia is pleased to announce a new venue for the 2024 Australian Longboard titles.

This year, the longboard divisions of the 2024 Australian Surfing Championships will take place as a standalone event in Bundjalung Country on the Tweed Coast of northern New South Wales.

The event will be held over six days from Thursday 12 September 2024 to Tuesday 17 September 2024, with possible event locations including Cabarita Beach, Hastings Point, Kingscliff Beach, Fingal Beach and Duranbah Beach.

The announcement follows Surfing Australia’s decision to hold the Australian Shortboard Titles, the Australian Para Surfing Titles and the Australian Bodyboard Titles in Port Macquarie, NSW (July 31st – August the 8the) and the Australian SUP titles at Phillip Island in Victoria (October 22NL – 26th of Octobere).

Events Director of Surfing Australia Rohan fell said: “We look forward to seeing the longboard divisions of the Australian Surfing Championships in a new venue that suits their surfing style. The Tweed Coast offers a range of point breaks and beaches that are not only ideal for longboarding, but is also close to the Hyundai Surfing Australia High Performance Centre, which offers training facilities, function rooms, accommodation and other world-class support services such as coaching and physio available during will be made available to athletes during the event period.”

Multiple Australian champion Landen Smales (Noosa Heads, QLD) won his first Australian Lumberjack title at the age of 12 when the 2019 Australian Titles were held on the Tweed Coast.

Smales said he was looking forward to the return of the Australian Longboard titles to the region.

“I’m really looking forward to the Aussie Longboard titles. It’s great that the event is moving to the Tweed Coast, Bundjalung Country, this year. There are so many different breaks to choose from. Last year I won the Junior and Open Men’s Logger and I am keen to compete in the new longboard division as the criteria changes this year. The changes suit my surfing and I will try to get a spot on team Australia to compete in the World Cup later this year.”

Participation in the Australian titles takes place via state qualification or invitation as a wildcard.
