Eight Blue Jays Receive Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Honors

ROSEMONT, IL – The 2024 Johns Hopkins men’s lacrosse team had eight players named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars, it was recently announced. The eight include four seniors, one junior and three sophomores; six of the eight are earning Distinguished Scholar honors for the first time in their careers, while two seniors Cameron Chauvette and junior Jack Charboneauwere mentioned for the second time.

Big Ten Faculty Representatives established the Distinguished Scholar Award in 2008 to complement the Academic All-Big Ten program. Distinguished Scholar Award recipients must have earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition in the preceding academic year, must have been enrolled full-time at the institution for the entire preceding academic year (two semesters or three quarters), and must have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.70 or higher in the preceding academic year, excluding any summer grades.

The list includes student-athletes from all 14 member institutions, plus affiliates Johns Hopkins (men’s and women’s lacrosse) and Notre Dame (men’s ice hockey). Collectively, this group participated in 38 different sports this past season. In total, the 2023-24 class of Distinguished Scholar Award recipients includes 368 student-athletes who maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA during the previous academic semester; a total of 1,695 student-athletes earned Distinguished Scholar honors.
