The release of EA Sports College Football 25 exceeded expectations, counting 6.5 million unique players through Tuesday.

The news comes from EA, which announced the information during an Investor Day call in New York City, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

The game marked the return of the college football franchise for the first time since 2013, when it was known as NCAA Football. The EA-developed game ran from 1998-2013.

The return of a college football video game has undoubtedly excited fans, with the excitement and buildup building to a fever pitch ahead of the game’s release in July. According to EA (h/t Nakos ), 500,000 people participated in the game’s EA Play trial.

The developer also said at Investor Day that EA Sports College Football 25 was the biggest new console game launch in North America this year.

The biggest difference between then and now is of course that player names, images and likenesses can be used in this game. People no longer have to use generic players with the skills of their human counterparts, but without their names and likenesses.

According to Nakos, more than 14,000 American football players chose to participate in the contest, receiving $600 plus a copy of the contest for their agreement.

Ultimately, the video game was a huge success and the annual release of the game is expected to become an eagerly anticipated event.
