Dodgers Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitches 2 innings in 2nd Triple-A rehab start

Three Dodgers teams played a rehab game at Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday. Yoshinobu Yamamoto was expected to go three innings in his second start, but a prolonged battle in the second inning cut his evening short.

Sugar Land catcher Omar Narváez fouled out 11 pitches en route to a 17-pitch walk to open the second inning, helping to increase Yamamoto’s pitch count to 53 after just two innings. He was done after that.

Yamamoto allowed two runs, both in the first inning after a walk and double were cashed, but also struck out three. The right-handed pitcher was in good form, with his fastball averaging 95.4 mph, right at his season average, and he picked up eight swinging strikes in his relatively short time on the mound.

Now that Yamamoto isn’t completely exhausted, we’ll see what happens next week. Whether he returns to the Dodgers in a limited capacity (think a bullpen game) or gets one more go at his rehabilitation.

Brusdar Rasp began his rehab assignment with Oklahoma City, allowing a run on three singles in the fifth inning, striking out one. It was his first game in four weeks.

Connor Brogdon pitched a scoreless sixth inning with two strikeouts and a walk. Between a lengthy Rancho Cucamonga outing plus Oklahoma City, this was Brogdon’s seventh appearance on his rehab assignment, which reached its 18th day on Tuesday. A decision on what to do with the right-handed pitcher on the 60-day injured list will come Sept. 16, barring a change in status.
