Dana White Believes The Rock Can Win an Oscar for Playing UFC Legend Mark Kerr: “He’ll Kill This!”

UFC president Dana White has given Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson his stamp of approval for his upcoming film.

As some MMA fans probably know, the WWE wrestler is currently filming “The Smashing Machine.” Directed by Benny Safdie of ‘Uncut Gems’ fame, ‘The Rock’ will star UFC legend Mark Kerr. In the early 2000s, an HBO documentary tracked the rise of the heavyweights, and then the brutal decline of the sport.

In 2019, Johnson revealed plans to adapt the documentary into a film starring himself as Kerr. After several delays, the movie is finally being filmed. On social media, the man known to many fans worldwide as ‘The Rock’ has given several updates. Just based on the footage seen so far, it’s a role Johnson takes very seriously.

Plus, it looks like UFC president Dana White is also a fan of what he saw. In a recent interview with Collider, the promoter was asked about Johnson’s role in the film. There, White praised The Rock, stating that the wrestler turned actor put everything he had into the film. This is evident from the fact that Johnson recently suffered an elbow injury during filming.

UFC President Dana White praises Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson during filming of MMA movie

Dana White believes in the film so much that he believes the veteran actor could insert himself into the Oscar conversation. Although ‘The Rock’ has been acting for decades, he has never been nominated for the Academy Awards. White believes this could change when the wrestler faces Mark Kerr next year.

“I don’t know if you saw it, but he recently showed on his Instagram that he messed up his elbow.” Dana White told it Collider, which discusses Dwayne Johnson’s role as Mark Kerr in an upcoming film. “’The Rock’ will destroy this. He will take on this role. I know how seriously he’s taking this, I know who’s working with him, and I know how hard he’s working on this movie. I think this could be the opportunity for ‘The Rock’ to actually be nominated for an Oscar.” (h/t MMA mania)

In addition to ‘The Rock’ appearing in the film, there are a number of other big names attached to the project. Current undisputed heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk will play Igor Vovchanchyn, and Ryan Bader will play UFC legend Mark Coleman.
