Cobra Kai’s Ralph Macchio weighs in on possible Hilary Swank cameo

Cobra Kai star Ralph Macchio has spoken out about the possibility of Hilary Swank making a guest appearance in season six.

The Karate Kid spinoff returned to Netflix for its final season on Thursday (July 18), with Macchio reprising his role as Daniel LaRusso.

During the show’s Los Angeles premiere earlier this week, the actor spoke to Entertainment Tonight to tease that several familiar faces will be returning for the new season. Nothing has been confirmed yet, though.

“I can’t name names, but there could be one or two,” he said.

“Or there are people who have come forward in a smaller role, but I would like to see them in a larger role.”

Many viewers have expressed their desire to see Swank return to the franchise, after she played Mr. Miyagi’s protégé Julie Pierce in the 1984 film The Next Karate Kid.

Responding to the fans’ hopes, Macchio cryptically replied, “Who wouldn’t, you know? And that’s the only part that would be interesting, you know?”

The news comes after series bosses Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg previously discussed Swank’s possible return in the final installment.

“We are fans of Hilary Swank,” Hurwitz told Deadline, to which Schlossberg added, “Anyone from the Miyagi world could potentially be in the final season.”

In Cobra Kai’s latest film, we follow Daniel and karate sensei Johnny (William Zabka) as they train their students for the Sekai Taikai, while delving deeper into Mr. Miyagi’s secret past.

During an exclusive interview with Digital spyMacchio recently said he’s happy with how the story is progressing, adding: “I think we’re doing a really good job with the storyline over 10 episodes, maybe even more than that.

“Daniel discovers the truth for himself through a mystery about who Miyagi might have been in areas of his life he knew nothing about.

“In season six, it was important to find something new in that way and I’m really excited about how the fans are going to see all of that and how that plays out.”

After its first episodes hit the streaming service, the series has earned an impressive 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (based on 17 reviews).

Many critics have praised the series for retaining its “charm” and “humor,” leaving you “wanting more” in time for part two, which is due out November 28.

Cobra Kai Season 1-5 and Season 6 Part 1 are now available to watch on Netflix.
