Cobra Kai’s Final Season Is Almost Here! 5 Tips From The Season 6 Trailer

Cobra Kai is about to release the first part of its sixth and final season, and the trailer indicates that big things are coming!

Cobra Kai is one of streaming TV’s most unexpected success stories. A sequel to the 80s The karate child trilogy, it has evolved into a great story of redemption, as the film’s villain, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), and rival Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) become unlikely allies and friends.

Season 5 culminated in the pair finally defeating the evil Terry Silver and breaking his hold on Cobra Kai. The final season will be divided into three parts, with the first series of five episodes releasing on July 18. The trailer has already hinted that some big things are coming, and here are some key insights!

The show may be called Cobra Kai, but the opening of the trailer reveals that the dojo itself is gone. There are headlines about Silver’s arrest, and we even see the Cobra Kai sign being thrown in the trash. Daniel and Johnny are content to let it stay that way, realizing that Silver has tarnished the name too much to continue. It’s a bold move, but a good one, because Cobra Kai is now a name stuck in the past.

The Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang dojos have now merged and Daniel aims to restore their honor by competing in the Sekai Taikai, the Karate World Championships. That’s a big deal and the gang is willing to click even when they get into trouble, like a bar fight. Still, it’s good to see the two sides seemingly coming together. The key word is ‘apparently…’

Although the trailer initially seems to show the gang working together, it quickly becomes clear that there is a lot of division. Johnny and Daniel discuss the proper way to train the students with Daniel voicing. “Our strength is that we teach both styles equally. Don’t jeopardize that balance, man.” It’s no surprise that the two old rivals are still not on the same page.

That plays into the rest of the dojo as well, as there’s still a feud between Tori and Amanda, Robby and Miguel, and no doubt still a bias against the Cobra Kai kids who followed Silver. That division can make it difficult for the team to come together to prepare for the big tournament.

Daniel warns Johnny, “We have no idea what we’re up against,” and that’s more than true. In Japan, we see that the original big bad of the franchise, Kreese (Martin Kove), has organized his own dojo in the forest to participate in the Sekai Taikai. He pushes them into a dark force and is notable for the grin he gives to a student who looks more than a little like Chozen (Yuji Okumoto). Could this lead to a new generational conflict? Either way, Kreese is ready to cause more trouble to set up the big conflict.

In the trailer’s final scene, Daniel, Chozen, and Amanda find a box that Mr. Miyagi (the late Pat Morita) hid in his house. Chozen notes that “Miyagi-san buried secrets for a reason. If we open them, anything is possible.” The question of what this mysterious box contains will likely be a major plot point moving forward in this final season.

There will undoubtedly be more surprises to come, but the trailer indicates that the first half of Cobra Kai’s The final season promises to be a fantastic experience that will conclude the series in style.

Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 1 premieres Thursday, July 18, only on Netflix.
