Budapest ready for the final stop of the Olympic Qualifier Series

June 18, 2024 – The Olympic Qualifier Series (OQS) reaches its second and final stop this week at the Ludovika Campus in Budapest, where more than 450 athletes from around the world will gather for their final chance to qualify for Paris 2024. After the exciting first stop of the series that took place at Shanghai’s Huangpu Riverside last month, Budapest is ready for four days of spectacular competition from June 20 to 23.

The Budapest event will see athletes from more than 120 national federations compete in BMX freestyle, breaking, sport climbing and skateboarding. The competitions will take place at the Ludovika Campus, a university campus centrally located in Budapest, which offers a green, park-like environment of 26 hectares and includes a variety of indoor and outdoor sports facilities. The OQS Urban Park can accommodate up to 10,000 spectators daily and offers free admission to the public.

The first participants have already arrived at the Ludovika Campus and started training in preparation for the competitions, which start next Thursday. The event starts with the preliminary rounds on Thursday and Friday, followed by the finals scheduled for the weekend. This will be the moment when the athletes will get their last chance to secure a quota place for Paris 2024. In total, more than 150 quota places will be allocated after the Budapest edition of the Olympic Qualifier Series.

Athletes enter the Budapest stop with the points they earned at the Shanghai stop last month. A final ranking, based on their performances in Shanghai and Budapest, will determine which athletes will secure quota places for Paris 2024. Following the finals of each sport, athletes who have secured quota places for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be celebrated at the “Road to Paris 2024 Ceremonies”. These athletes, together with the Paris 2024 mascot, will be festively honored in the presence of fans on the Ludovika Campus.

The four-day OQS stop in Budapest offers athletes and spectators a unique Olympic experience that combines sport, music, art and culture. The event features daily performances from prominent Hungarian pop and rap artists, along with a range of activities including sports demonstrations and taster sessions led by local athletes such as world champion Zoltan Filkóházi. Spectators will have the opportunity to actively participate in sports, meet the Paris 2024 mascots and view the Paris 2024 Olympic torch.

The event culminates on Olympic Day, Sunday, June 23, with special activities organized by the Hungarian Olympic Committee to celebrate the occasion.
