Things are not going well for the opponents in the Nations League on Thursday morning. The Americans are twelfth in the standings with just three wins so far. They are not in the classification zone of the final stage of the VNL. The American team was also defeated by Iran, which had not defeated anyone in the tournament up to that point.

Despite the negative results of the Americans, the direct confrontation between the United States and Brazil in the VNL is quite balanced. In the eight clashes since the tournament’s inception, each team has achieved four victories. In the last match Brazil won 3 sets to 1.

After the win against the Netherlands, Bernardinho highlighted Darlan’s excellent play, but stressed that the team must put into practice what they do in training. It is essential that the Brazilian coach has “more continuity”:

– We’ve had a good training week, but we still couldn’t incorporate it all into the match. The team improved throughout the match. Darlan grew a lot after the second set, his attack percentage was higher, he served better again and the central players played very well, but we could have worked better on our defense system. Now we need to grow throughout the week and be more consistent.

The Nations League has two groups with eight teams each. The 16 teams will be ranked first to 16th in the FIVB World Rankings after the last edition of the VNL in July 2023. In the first phase, each team plays 12 times in three different phases against equally strong opponents: three matches against teams ranked 1 to 4, three matches against teams ranked 5 to 8, three matches against teams ranked 9 to 12 and finally three games against teams ranked 13 to 16. Each game is worth points towards the rankings.

At the end of three three-week rounds between May and June, the top seven teams and the country hosting the final, this year Poland, will advance to the final stage. The quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will take place in knockout format between June 27 and 30.

Germany, Brazil, the United States, Japan, Poland, Canada and France have already secured places in Paris. Seven of the twelve quotas have been filled. There are five left, which will be determined by the world rankings on June 24 after the first leg of the 2024 Nations League.
