Jayson Tatum is leading the Boston Celtics to their 18th NBA title in franchise history. Now, the record-breaking champions want to make sure the superstar, who has been with the team since 2017, remains part of a bright future. Tatum is expected to sign a record-breaking contract soon.

Basketball star Jayson Tatum is reportedly set to sign the richest contract in NBA history with the Boston Celtics. The 26-year-old and the Celtics are reportedly close to agreeing to a five-year, $314 million contract. The deal is reportedly still in the process of being finalized, The Athletic and ESPN reported Monday (ET). The contract could be signed as early as July 6.

Tatum would replace Jaylen Brown as the all-time record holder with the deal. Brown and the Celtics agreed to a five-year, $303 million contract last year. Both Tatum and Brown had a significant impact on the Celtics’ 18th NBA title, which they won against the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals.

Tatum is one of the best players in the league and, like Brown, is largely responsible for the Celtics reaching the Eastern Conference Finals five times in the past seven years since his NBA debut and being the most consistent team in the league during that span. The forward plays primarily for the team and has almost no weaknesses, which is a huge asset to the Celtics, both as a scorer and a passer.

Tatum was selected third overall by the Celtics in the 2017 draft and has played for them ever since. He has earned five All-Star nominations and has been selected to the All-NBA Team four times. With Team USA, he won Olympic gold in Tokyo in 2021 and will be part of LeBron James’ super team at the Paris Games (July 26-August 8).

Tatum’s new contract, which makes him the highest-paid player in the NBA, will likely secure his future in Boston, and continue his successful basketball career with the Celtics. His exceptional performance in basketball, both on and off the court, has positioned him as a key asset to the Celtics, making him a key player in the NBA basketball community.
