Biles cleared to compete in full Olympic team final despite calf injury

PARIS — A calf injury won’t stop Simone Biles.

The American gymnast is on the starting list for all four events of the Olympic team finals on Tuesday evening.

Biles twisted her left calf during the warm-up for the floor exercise during qualifying on Sunday. She briefly withdrew to have her calf taped, but then returned to earn top scores on floor and vault en route to a top finish in the all-around.

Last week, U.S. team officials considered leaving Biles out of the uneven bars team final to give her a break during the Games. Instead, Biles will be in every event of the final, when three gymnasts compete and all three scores count.

The Americans are the big favorites for gold after finishing second behind the Russians in Tokyo three years ago.
